Yahoo Search Engine Optimization

It's one of the first officially established online search engines that was created in 1995.  Yahoo is the one search engine that started all the craziness about search and visibility of websites on the Internet.  It was an innovative solution at the time that would define and change the way a user would perform an online search.  Many people wonder where the name Yahoo actually came from originally.

Yahoo Search Engine Optimization

After Jerry Yang and David Filo decided to rename their "Guide To The World Wide Web" the new name "Yahoo" was born.  The backronym for the word means "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle". So, there is a fun little fact for you that you probably did not know of the Yahoo! Search Engine.

Between the years of 1995 - 2000 Yahoo was on the rise as it was the #1 search engine to optimize your website for.  Only in a short time that would change with the emerging of a new search engine that redefined online search forever.  Unlike other search engines on the Web today Yahoo's seo guidelines remained traditional.  Some of its core requirements for a properly optimized website are listed below:

  • Meta Data - Title Tag, Description Tag, and Keyword Tag.  The top three parts that every page of your website should have.  It signals the YahooBOT and communicates with it to define the purpose of each individual page of your website.
  • Body Content - keyword density is one of the biggest factors in analyzing your website for inclusion in the Yahoo index.  While not as strict about this particular element you should still focus on delivering quality and highly useful content to the visitor.
  • Backlinks - it's great to have a website on the Internet although if nobody else knows about it then it really does you no good.  Yahoo continues to look for backlinks that lead to the main page or secondary pages of your website.
  • Website Aging - this particular factor helps you establish a higher SEO-Authority over pre-existing websites that may compete or signal identical content as your own website.  Generally the aging process of your website will begin its maturity process between 8 - 12 months post existence.

Yahoo Search Engine Optimization - Get the Inside Scoop

The battle of "The Best Search Engine" will most likely be evolving and for years to come.  In the meantime if you are a small business owner seeking to acquire effective Search Engine Optimization exposure, Yahoo! is most likely your answer.  The current market share of 16% will be sufficient enough to establish good exposure for your small niche oriented business.  This particular search engine is aimed toward the multimedia oriented crowd and those that are more open to the broad information.  Unfortunately the organic traffic results have decreased over the years of this particular search engine but the recent Yahoo/Microsoft merger should hopefully change things around.
