Google Adwords is one of the most advanced, easy-to-use, cost effective, & ROI driven online marketing platform available to advertisers on the web today. Its unique features and capabilities give each advertiser the ability to target a specific audience based on products and services that they would be interested in. A great way to attract new customers for your business while creating additional exposure for your products or services.
Recently there has been a tremendous amount of changes to the platform itself including some key improvements to the overall reporting system. Google has exceeded expectations once again by providing new features for tracking and analyzing the performance of your account within the Google AdWords platform. One of these particular improvements concerns the revamped Search Query Report that’s available inside your account. This particular report shows the individual search queries terms that have been typed in the search query box at Google.com by users and caused to trigger one or more of your ads from your campaign(s). The new name for this particular report is now referred to as Search Term Report for those Google AdWords Certified Professionals that may be reading this post.
Generating a Search Term Report in Google AdWords
The Google AdWords Search Term Report can serve of great importance when it comes to the optimization of your overall campaign or account for that matter. Its most common use pertains to the filtration of broad match keywords terms that may have triggered the display of your ads. In addition one of its other purposes involves the inclusion of new additional keywords to your account/campaign which may relate to the products or services that are being offered. Regardless of these two particular options for use of this report it’s main purpose remains to show each advertiser the individual search terms that have triggered ads within the account. Below is a short step tutorial that outlines a quick How-To on generating a Search Term Report within your Google AdWords account.
- Log in to your Google AdWords account.
- Select the main Campaigns tab to navigate to the account campaigns.
- There are a couple of different ways to generate your Search Term Report. You can either create one on all of your keywords, individual campaigns, or select AdGroups. We have broken down the individual steps below.
- To create a Search Term Report for ALL keywords in your entire account perform the follows after Step #2 above.
- Click on the Keywords tab under All Online Campaigns to display all of your keywords.
- Select the See Search Terms drop-down menu option button and choose All. You will be presented with an option to export your data in a .csv file format.
- To create a Search Term Report for a specific campaign only follow these instructions after performing Step #2 above.
- On the left-hand side column of the administration panel under All Online Campaigns choose the campaign you’d like to generate your report for and click on it.
- Select the Keywords tab here to display all keywords in your campaign.
- Select the See Search Terms drop-down menu option button and choose All. You will be presented with an option to export your data in a .csv file format.
- To create a Search Term Report for an individual AdGroup within your account please perform the following after completing Step #2 above.
- On the left-hand side menu column of the administration panel select the campaign that your AdGroup is located in and click on it.
- Choose the specific AdGroup on the left-hand side menu that’s associated with the campaign you chose and click on it.
- Select the Keywords tab here again to view all keywords for your speicific AdGroup.
- Click on the See Search Terms drop-down menu button and choose All. You will be presented with an option to export your data in a .csv file format.
- That’s it!
Alternatively you can also select specific keywords if you’re interested in a particular keyword phrase relationship to the user’s behavior as well. During each step of the process above where you have selected the Search Term Report drop-down menu button you can also select the individual keyword phrases by placing a check inside the checkbox next to each phrase prior to generating your report. This action will generate a Search Term Report in the Google AdWords system and show you whether or not an ad was displayed for that particular search term.

I use this feature all the time, and find it extremely useful. I think there is also plenty of data currently available to PPC advertisers via a downloadable search query report.
